The year 2008 will be a special year in Bhutan: the Royal Centenary celebrations will take place throughout the country; the present King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck will be crowned the fifth Druk Gyalpo; for the first time general elections will take place; and parliament will endorse the constitution. Reasons enough for a celebration! With music and a gift to tighten the friendly relationship between both countries.

We will contribute to the celebrations by organising the first-ever classical piano concerts in Thimphu and by presenting a grand piano and musical instruments to Bhutan.

The well-known Dutch piano duo, Wyneke Jordans and Leo van Doeselaar, will play the grandpiano.

The musical instruments are a gift for the young Bhutanese students at the Kilu Music School in Thimphu. We will establish a Cultural Fund to ensure maintenance of the grand piano, assistance to the Kilu Music School as well as future cultural programmes.

This Bhutan+Partners’ and Chenzig Medias' initiative will be carried out in close collaboration with the Royal Government of Bhutan. For more information: http://www.bhutan-piano.org.

The project Grand Piano for Bhutan has inspired a number of Dutch to make a journey of friendship over land by car to Bhutan and to attend the classical concerts in Thimphu.
